Research Group Overview

Picture

Our research team studies how environmental gradients influence community structure and function. We are especially interested in how disturbance influences community dynamics, understanding ecosystem responses to the multiple stresses of global change, and the factors that influence to role of detritus in aquatic ecosystems. We investigate these themes with a combination of observational studies, field manipulations, and mesocosm experiments that test hypotheses across spatial scales and levels of ecological complexity. Our field sites include the streams, rivers, lakes and wetlands of Maine, the Colorado Rocky Mountains, the Pacific North West, New Zealand, and Greenland.

Our group is housed within the School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine and many of our students are pursuing their degrees in the Ecology and Environmental Sciences Program.
